Winter weather is in full swing at the coldest areas in the country and at four outdoor National Football League venues today. Snow is in the forecast in Philadelphia, where the Eagles host the Las Vegas Raiders, and in New Jersey, where the Giants play host to the Washington Commanders at MetLife Stadium.
No snow but freezing weather of 11 degrees in Chicago where the Bears entertain the Cleveland Browns and tomorrow night in Pittsburgh, when the Steelers welcome the Miami Dolphins with forecasted temperatures of 20 degrees.
The two teams with the best record in football are home this week … and they are both underdogs. The New England look to become the first team in professional football history to score 23 or more points and allow 23 points or less ten straight weeks. Last Sunday, the Patriots set an NFL record with their ninth consecutive game scoring at least 23 points and allowing that many or less. The only other professional team to accomplish that feat in nine straight weeks was the 1961 Houston Oilers of the American Football League.
It is worth noting that the five teams to score and allow the 23 points criteria all went on to win the championship that season.
And yet, with this sterling record New England is underdogs today when they host the Buffalo Bills. Sean McDermott’s team comes into this game two back of the AFC East Division leading Patriots. If Buffalo loses today New England clinches the division title. It would snap a five year hold the Bills have had on the top spot in their division.
The Denver Broncos are the front runners in the AFC West and have won ten straight games but are underdogs in the Mile High City today to the Green Bay Packers.
